The original extreme sport of fencing is alive in Rome, Georgia.
In 1998, fencers participating in both competitive and recreational epee and foil founded the Rome Fencing Club.
Today, the club is locally coached, with fencers participating in weekly classes and individual lessons targeted toward the weapon of epee. |

The Unprecidented Tournament
We have put together a fantastic plan for our Feb 23 tournament! It is calleed the Unprecidented Tournament! From Frank our tournament organizer:
The Rome Fencing Club will host the Gladiator Gala on Saturday February 23, 2008. Shorter College Winthrop King Center will again be the venue for this tournament.
Have you ever competed at a tournament where you paid no entry fee, but were able to treat yourself (and a few others) to a free steak dinner to celebrate your medal and/or new rating?
We didn’t think so.
Here is your chance.
In an effort to support the Georgia Division’s efforts to promote youth fencing in the USFA, we will not charge entry fees for any fencer age 18 or younger (as of February 23, 2008) for ANY event. That’s right. Even if you compete in three events, you will pay nothing. Nada. Zilch (you get the point.) Furthermore, any fencers rated “A” or “B” in epee will also fence for free. If you can find a better deal at a tournament on 02/23/08, let us know, and we’ll beat it.
To make things even more interesting, we are negotiating sponsorship agreements with several major chain restaurants. We will, at the very least, provide gift certificates for gold medalists in the Open, Women’s, and E/Under events. If we can get more, silver and bronze medalists might be able to enjoy a nice meal as well. We will know soon which restaurants are planning on helping us out. Please check AskFred for updates. Events will include Mixed, E/Under, women’s, and Y10 epee competitions. So, if you are perturbed by gas prices, hungry for a bloody steak, and itching for an “08” rating, bring it on! We’ll see you there.
Refer to http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComing.php?tournament_id=5091 for more details, and to pre-register.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
All the best

Katherine Lynch starts her NCAA career
Katherine Lynch is the first member from the Rome Fencing Club to compete at the NCAA level. Katherine won the Southeast Sectional Championship in 2005, and is one of the few epeeists in the southeast to earn medals at the National and World Cup levels in recent years. She earned a “B” rating in 2005, and left Georgia shortly thereafter to train at the prestigious Northwest Fencing Center in Oregon. She is now fencing for Stanford University in their Division I program. Click here to see her biography, and to lean more about the Stanford fencing program!.

Roman Fencers Bring Home Medals and USFA Ratings from The Blades of Steel Open
Ross Collins earned his "C" rating and as Silver Medal at The Blades of Steel Open on November 17th, 2007. Years of hard work have made him the highest ranked fencer in our club!
Michael Howell also competed at the The Blades of Steel Open, and became the first Rome fencer to ever earn a USFA rating at his very first tournament!
Ethan Lara won the gold medal at the Y10 event! This is the third time Ethan has taken home the Y10 Gold from our tournaments over the past few years.
Jack McClain came in 3rd place in the Y10 event! This was Jack's first event ever, and we are really proud of all his hard work.
Ivy Holt came in 3rd place at the Women's Open Epee Event! Way to Go Ivy!
All our newcomers! We had a total of 6 fencers compete for the first time at this tournament! Everyone had a great time, and the tournament wouldn't have been the same without you. Thanks!
Our Crew! Thanks to all the people who helped with Armory, setting up strips, and giving of their time on Friday, and Saturday to make this a wonderful event! We couldn't have done it without you.
